Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Priavte Pilot Certificate?
coo as ‘‘PPL’’ it’s the first step to becoming a pilot. With your Private you learn basic flying skills and can fly a plane during the day or night in good weather. You can carry passengers such as friends and family, but you can’t get paid to fly or work as a pilot yet. You can share flight costs with passengers. The PPL is the starting point for a career as a paid airline pilot.
What are some of the requirements?
To be eligible to pursue your Private Pilot License, you must meet certain requirements, such as:
Be at least 16 years old to fly solo.
Be at least 17 years old to receive your private pilot certificate.
Read, speak, write, and understand English.
Obtain at least a third-class medical certificate.
How long does it take?
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires 40 hours of actual flight training to earn a Private Pilot Certificate. This includes day and night flying, cross-country flight training, and other types of flight maneuvers. Your flight instructor will train you in all required skills, and it is typical for most student pilots to train for 55-60 or more hours to build the skills and confidence they need.
How much will everything cost?
The actual cost of training will depend on multiple factors, like what plane is used, how often a student flies, and how fast the student goes through the curriculum. Please visit the ‘‘new fleet’’ to see costs for each aircraft.
